Chase away the winter blues with Melbourne’s Glow Winter Arts Festival, back again from August 10-20 and brighter than ever. We’ve put together our top four list, including a show that combines theatre with death defying circus tricks, an enchanted village and two Alice in Wonderland-inspired installations. Get glowing!
IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK
Chapel Off Chapel, 12 Little Chapel Street, Prahran
Dislocate is serving up slapstick theatre with a side of crazy-good circus skills and amazing story-telling in the show If These Walls Could Talk. The show focuses on the stories of six generations of tenants in an apartment building and their life events. This show is definitely one you’ll want to catch this winter.
Pro tip: There’s a 2 for 1 offer, just use the promo code “GLOW” when purchasing your tickets
ALICE’S GARDEN
Central Park, John Landy Oval, Malvern East
You won’t have to crawl down a rabbit hole or gulp down a ‘drink me’ potion in order to reach this magical garden by Mandylight. Ginormous flowers and colossal mushrooms will be illuminating Central Park in Malvern East. No, you’re not going mad, you will actually be able to see little sprouts come alive right before your eyes. But either way, we can take a leaf out of Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter as “we’re all a little mad here”.
ENCHANTED
Malvern Gardens, 1344 High Street, Malvern
Meander your way through an enchanted village within a forest at installation artist, John Voller’s latest work. Seamlessly blending together Stonnington architecture and lights, Enchanted will transform the way you see Malvern Gardens. Just be sure to stay on the path, or you might get lost.
WONDERLIGHT
280-286 Chapel Street, Prahran
With Mad Hatters and the Queen of Hearts, these art projections are off the charts! Creative duo Nick Azidis and Rose Staff are lighting up three iconic and historical buildings, and transforming the Chapel Street Precinct with all your favourite classic fairy tale characters straight off the pages of Alice in Wonderland. So if you’re out for a night around town, make sure to snap a selfie with your favourite characters.
These are our top four picks out of the full list of events we’ve gone through. Make sure to check out the rest of the events for Glow Winter Arts Festival happening here.
