The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is back from March 29 to April 23 with over 500 side-splitting shows. Some comedians are game enough to go at it alone, and we’ve put together our list of the Top 5 Solo Acts for your LOL-ing pleasure.

Gillian Cosgriff 8 Songs in 8 Weeks
We’ve seen this girl two years running and have fallen in love. To combat her extreme case of procrastination, Gillian set herself the challenge to write eight songs in 8 weeks. The result is a musical comedy that is shamelessly relatable, quirky, super catchy and somewhat crazy. We’d expect no less from Melbourne’s Queen of Cabaret.

Venue: The Butterfly Club
Dates: March 28th – April 9th
Times: 8.30pm
Tickets: $25.00 – $32.00

Michael Shafar – Jewish-ish
Shalom from the mean streets of East St Kilda! After graduating uni with degrees in law and biomed, Michael decided to embark on a less traditional career path and try his hand at comedy, offering a hilariously awkward Jewish-ish perspective on religion, politics and bagels.

Venue: Trades Hall, Archive Room
Dates: March 30th – April 22nd (except Wednesdays)
Time: 8:30pm (7:30pm on Sundays)
Tickets: Full $22-25, Concession $20-22, Groups 6+ $20-22, Laugh Pack $20-22

Jewish-ish, On The List Melbourne, MICF

Louisa Wall – A Dingo Ate My Baby
Louise is a one-woman black comedy cabaret referencing the best of Aussie culture. A Dingo Ate My Baby features loop pedals, piano, solo clarinet and tap dancing, picture bogans and burlesque. BYO Crocs and cask wine.

Venue: The Coopers Malthouse
Dates: March 30th – April 9th (except Mondays)
Time: 8.00pm (7.00pm on Sundays)
Tickets: $18 – $24

Cam Venn – Balls Deep
We’re picturing 50 Shades of Grey meets Anchorman, and it has us titillated. Balls Deep is probably one of those shows that can’t be unseen and is without a doubt the most outrageous on our list. It’s a physical comedy that will have you squirming in your seat while exploring the overlap in comedy and fetish.

Venue: The Butterfly Club
Dates: April 17th- 23rd
Times: 10pm
Tickets: $25.00 – $32.00

Balls Deep, MICF, On The List, On The List Melbourne

George Dimarelos – Self Sabotage
Self Sabotage is extremely relatable. It’s for people who make terrible decisions they instantly regret, but who also feel much better about themselves after seeing someone else fail even harder -pretty much everyone. The show takes you on a journey of small moments of indecision to large moments of emotional insanity.

Venue: The Bull and Bear
Dates: March 30th – April 23rd (except Tuesdays)
Time: 6.30pm
Tickets: $20

The list doesn’t end here! There are hundreds of more shows to keep you laughing, so check back for more MICF lists and reviews from us!
