When the invite came through for opening night of Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance Dangerous Games, the image in my head went straight to velvet green dresses with white socks and black laces. I could hear didileedee potato in my head with an Irish ditty in the background (yes I am tragically cliché and sincerely apologize).

So imagine my complete and utter shock sitting in the plush red seats at the State Theatre and being exposed to a show filled with animation, musical instruments, songs, theatrics, acrobatics and of course gorgeous Irish dancing with a hint of Indian and Latin dance in there too.

From the moment the lead actor fluttered across the stage with grace like no Aussie bloke I’ve ever seen I was hooked. I found my toes tapping unconsciously under my seat the rest of the show.

For any guys reading this and turning their nose up at a dance show let me tell you this is not the run of the mill – the women were a mix of gorgeously feminine, petite and feathery light on their feet or they were saucy, sexy and really quite hot. As for the guys, they were either fiercely masculine, strong and brooding or they were protective, graceful and rather delicious when they took their tops off (there were some cheers from the crowd at that moment. They may or may not have come from seat G18).

The narrative that flowed through the show can only be described as enchanted land meets He-Man. You’ll see what I mean when you see the costumes. They were very far from the green tunic’s in my mind. They were full of colour and some of the character’s costumes were incredibly technical and elaborate.

It’s a fun show for all ages, and all tastes. I couldn’t recommend it more. In fact, I was so impressed that I thought to myself that given I’ve never tried my hand (foot) at tap dancing, you never know… if I could tap as quickly as I talk, I might have a new career on the cards.

Check it out now!! It’s definitely On The List
