Hoorah we finally have the weather, so now we need the menu to match and we vote seafood! Whether you’re after a platter fit for a king or a quick hit of omega three, Melbourne will certainly deliver!
First on the list is Fitzroy’s distinctive loft styled restaurant and bar, The Panama Dining Room, with their Mother Shucker’s Oyster Hour. Throughout the year, after work hour boasts oysters kilpatrick priced at $2.50 each and their oysters au natural at only $1 every night from 6pm until 7pm. If the premium oyster happy hour’s name isn’t enough to get you up the stairs and in the door then the drinks list, pool table and unique view of Smith Street through statement arch windows will.
Hot summer tip: Follow up the trip to Panama with Gelato Messina and chill! Situated just below of Panama on the ground floor.
Guess who else is coming to the Oyster party? The purveyors of whisky, craft beer, cocktails, cured meats and cheese, The Boilermaker House! Get your $1 Oysters every Wednesday from the new kid on the block located on Lonsdale Street. Try pairing a hoppy IPA with some fresh oysters for a real summer treat. Get in quick, the $1 oysters are available every Wednesday from 4pm until they run out.
Just in, one of our seafood go-to’s, Hunky Dory, has officially launched their new menu across all seven stores. Rolling out from late November, they’re boasting new flavours from around the globe, along with their renown fish and chips, you can now find sweet potato chips, the HD Royale and veggie burgers, grilled calamari and fish wraps, just to name a few. Plus it’s affordable for the fam bam.
If dine in is more your style then go no further than Rubira’s. The head chefs’ Kirill Serebro at Port Melbourne and Adam Barge at North Melbourne ensure the quality of food and flavours do all the talking. Straight from the market floor, handpicked every morning by renowned fishmonger and restaurateur, John Rubira, these restaurants guarantee only the best quality seafood available, not just fresh but market fresh! Our pick for the festive season is their famous shared platters of their must-have chilli tiger prawns signature dish, mouth-watering local bay calamari scallops, oven-roasted scampi, Springbay mussels, bug-tails and seasonal crayfish, absolute seafood heaven!
And who can forget the Melbourne seafood institution, The Lobster Cave. A long standing favourite amongst celebrities, Melbournians and beyond, it’s definitely worth the trip to Beaumaris. Mr Seafood, Bill Ferg, has been coined a legend as he’s built the restaurant’s reputation up on top service, a unique dining experience, a comprehensive wine and drinks list and magnificent food, the full package. With many unable to choose just one favourite, the Ferg’s Muscle Pot is delectably very popular, the angus aged steak and crispy duck balances out the menu for the non-seafood eater and the signature whole or half Southern Rock Lobsters delivers that wow factor. For that extra special occasion we’d encourage you to splurge on the ‘Fergination’ with two whole Southern Rock Lobsters accompanied by an incredible array of seafood from pan fried Kangaroo Island Baby Abalone to Coffin Bay oysters topped with Canadian black caviar, just WOW!
Whether it’s the family’s seafood night, a quick dozen after work, a fish and chips date on the beach or a special occasion this summer, seafood is always on the menu.
