The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is back again from March 4-13. As always they’ve got some fantastic events (over 250!) We’ve handpicked the top 5 hottest parties and festivals for a great time!
MORE INTO FOOD AND WINE? CHECK OUT MFWF Best of Series – Food and Fromage AND MFWF Best of Series – Vino and Other Drinks.
Festival Opening Party
Kick off your culinary adventure in the most apt way with some yummy in your tummy and a drink in hand. Guests will be treated to six tasting plates carefully crafted by some of the hottest Australian and international chefs including Morgan McGlone of Belle’s Hot Chicken and Paul Carmichael of Momofuku Seiōbo. Tickets also include six drink tokens, so be sure to quench your thirst with the help of Vinomofo, Colonial Brewing Company, and Four Pillars Gin.
Latin America Street Food Fiesta
Send your palette on a Latin American adventure as you sample dishes from Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Columbia, and Mexico. Think Latin barbequed meat falling off the bone, the most refreshing Mexican paletas, and everything else in between. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Latin American Festival without some delicious cocktails and a couple of glasses of house wines and cerveza.
Tokyo Laneway Festival
More into Asian cuisine? Let yourself be transported to Japan with pop-up street food courtesy of Sake Restaurant & Bar’s Wayne Brown. They’ll also have an izakaya section where you can pick up some yakitori barbeque. And not to worry, they haven’t forgotten the booze, grab a Japanese cocktail from their interactive laneway bar as you check out some live graffiti art.
Windsor & Co. Block Party
If you find yourself at Windsor, be sure to head over to Artist’s Lane and sample some hawker inspired food from Hanoi Hannah, Mr. Miyagi, Hawker Hall, Susie Wong, and House of Hoi An. We chatted with Adrian Li, head chef of Hanoi Hannah for more deets!
Bridge Road Gathering
We can’t let the south have all the fun. If Windsor has their Block Party, Richmond’s got their Bridge Road Gathering. Taste dishes from Greece, Vietnam, and every place in between. With over forty stalls, and with tasting plates starting at $5 there’s something for everyone!
Out of Town
Don’t forget to also check out what regional Victoria has to offer. Our picks include Vineyard Polo, Paddock to Park Carnivore’l, and the Wine Food Farmgate on the Bay.
#FOMO
Other standout events include World’s Longest Lunch, A Gin Experience in a Beach Box, MasterClass Hands On, and The Buttermilk Chicken Wars. Much to our disappointment, they’ve sold out, but keep an eye out for 2017’s MFWF and get your tickets early the next time around!
